My predictions for the 2022 AFL season
After an entertaining 2021 season with crowds back in Melbourne (for the most part) and the Demons ending their 57 year premiership drought with the best season of their history, the 2022 AFL season is almost here. In just 2 months the AFL will be back, with us all wondering how our team will go this season and if they will play better, or for Melbourne fans, maintain that skill and dominance from 2021.
There is always uncertainty in this with many making estimations on how the year will unfold. This is the ladder I've put together that I reckon has the best chance of actually happening this season:
I don't think that there will be much of a change in the top 8 from last year with new teams, just a shuffle in those teams positions. The teams outside of the 8 though (I reckon) is going to be interesting.
I've gone for a bit of a controversial bottom 10. I put Richmond 13th and below Carlton at 12th. Richmond fell apart after the bye in 2021 maybe being a bit used to success and finishing strong in previous years. Dropping games against St Kilda, Collingwood, West Coast, Fremantle and GOLD COAST! They even had a draw against Hawthorn in round 23, so I thought it was fair that I put them in 13th.
I wrote about Carlton’s new leadership group and how I think they are going to go in 2022 in this post here: https://link.medium.com/sSf9oKqBenb . Make sure you read that after!
I put Collingwood last which I think is fair since they came second last only to North Melboure last year and I reckon the Pies are entering a rebuild.
I went the boring option with the Premiers and had Melbourne going back to back. I just think they played a brand of footy that was way better then any other team last year and I don't think there could be another team to match that this season.
Thanks for reading all the way to the end! If you enjoyed this read I have more like this, so check them out if you'd like!
